The MSL20118 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of sampling and measurement activities as part of laboratory, production or field operations in the construction, manufacturing, resources and environmental industry sectors.
Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include samplers and testers, production personnel, plant operators, production operators, field assistants, drivers, sample couriers and many others.
This qualification consists of eight (8) units of competency, of which there are four (4) core units and four (4) electives.
CORE UNITS
- MSL912001 Work within a laboratory or field workplace (induction)
- MSL922001 Record and present data
- MSL943004 Participate in laboratory or field workplace safety
- MSMENV272 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
ELECTIVE UNITS
Selected by the student / school / employer upon consultation with ABC Training and Consulting staff.
Approximately 6 - 12 months.
Competency based training has a flexible duration. Learners are provided theory content consisting of reading content, videos and formative assessment activities. Trainers then visit on-site to provide further practical training, issue the summative assessment, conduct practical observations and discuss your progress with your supervisor.

Consists of $300 per unit of competency plus a $300 enrolment fee.

VETiS
MSL20118 Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement is often undertaken whilst attending secondary school. This type of enrolment is known as Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS). It is fully funded by the Queensland Government under their VET Investment Program and there are no fees or contributions required from the student.
Must be enrolled as a QLD Secondary School Student in Yrs 10, 11 or 12. They must also be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen. Sound Maths and English skills are required.
Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW)
This funding is available for job seekers or people who are currently working in low-skilled employment and require a formal qualification to improve their job prospects. The program is run in conjunction with various community-based organisation and includes training, career advice, job preparation skills, foundation skills and individual case management.
The program is funded by the Queensland Government and the Community Based Organisation that you enrol under.
Students must be QLD residents and be aged 15+ years old. They must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen.
Potential students are recruited as a course participant by a Skilling Queenslander's for Work approved Community Based Organisation. These organisations are responsible for approving course participants and may have their own eligibility criteria.
